You've already found the best possible site!
I've been Guildwarsing sinces before its release and nothing compares to Guru... Whats not on Guru will be in Guildwiki.. which is more for reference.
All I would say is get Nightfall, that way you can enjoy discovering the new content and the new proffesions and skills along with the rest of us

As you are new and will have many questions I strongly suggest you also add guildwiki to your Favorites list- guildwiki will be your best friend while you learn the ins and outs of GW.

Welcome to Guild Wars.... feel free to buy Prophecies or Nightfall but don't go with Factions cuz it's waste of money!

As someone else stated, I'd suggest buying Nightfall first. You can always get Prophecies later, and seeing as how the population on Prophecies will probably be at a minimum, the heroes you unlock in Nightfall will be extremely helpful.
edit: I'd also recommend staying away from Factions. While there were a couple of useful skills, the PvE was terrible. Not worth 50$, imo, just to unlock a couple of skills.

I would buy factions for the skills and such you can't really compete without having all skill options avaliable.

Yeah, don't worry factions is out. I was going to buy prophecies until I learned about nightfall being around the corner. Then I started biting my nails and looking back and forth going "What do I do? What do I do?" lol. I am going to see if I can get ahold of a pre-order package of Nightfall today and pay for it today. If I can get no pre-order though, mostly wanting the extra charactor slot, I don't know what I should get. But I definatly want one of them. Prophecies just = sooner. I can hang in there for a couple days though.
Most likely I will end up with Nightfall. But there is a small chance I may get Prophecies.

There is also GWO which im not allowed to link to. It's one of the Elite Fansites on www.guildwars.com - Pretty much the same as GWG.

I dont really like GWO all that much, mainly because of the registration to view boards thing. 'nyway Guru will have all your comments/inquiries/questions answered or responded to. GWiki is great if you need to know where to cap a skill or weapon.
I'd give you my trial key to play prohs and factions but it's in Dublin, and I'm in London. Hence the problem. I have Nightfall on pre order, for over a month, but on Friday I'll still be in London, and I wont be able to pick up til Sunday, so please, sympathy through my time of anguish would e appreciated. Empathy would be better. Empathy FTW.
Guess you know im a mesmer now, huh?

Guildwiki.org has tons of information and can answer most questions you have about the game. For character builds, trading info, and other changing aspects of the game guildwarsguru.com has good, organized forums only rivaled by those at GWO.
There are several other fansites I visit, but I can't post the direct links, because it's against the forum rules.

If you just can't wait til Friday, I would buy Prophecies and add Nightfall when it is released. You can start a character in Prophecies and take just your primary missions/quests up through Lion's Arch and hop on the boat to Elona on Friday. Since you will eventually want at least Prophecies, that's what I would do.

I have just came back from the store and picked up my pre-order package with Nightfall paid for so all I have to do is pick it up on Friday. Some empathy as well as sympathy for you, ischuros. Also, I appreciate the offer on the key but it would almost be torture at this point. My best bet is to forget about the game until Friday. ;P
I will end up buying prophecies soon enough, but probably not for around at least a couple weeks maybe a month. But now I have that 1 extra charactor slot if I ever want to use it.
Thanks for the links and info on the other sites. I will probably look around at them throughout the rest of this week to keep me occupied. Thanks again.

I like GWonline and GWG equally.
Both sites do not allow linking to eachother apperantly, which really isn't something I agree with.
All it does is split the community apart, and no matter which forum is more active (both are equally active imo), it doesn't benefit either side much.
But yeah this website and GWonline are basically the 2 main, best, and most active English fansites you'll find.
There are also profession boards in this forum (and the other).
I'm glad you like the game also!
For the record anyhow:
Prophecies = Between Factions and This, this one is probably better. If you play Prophecies first and then Factions, you may not feel like it's as good as Prophecies. It's still a good game nonetheless though!
Nightfall = Coming out on Friday, and all I and mostly everyone else in this community has to say, is that this is turning out to be a GREAT game. I recommend buying this if able
Once again, I'm glad your having fun, be sure to get Nightfall for more fun as well. See you around!
EDIT:
Now that I actually think about it though- linking to GWonline is allowed isn't it? I just thought of that after remembering the Dev Tracker forum

When Nightfall is out i expect many players will be busy doing NF quests and missions, which makes it even harder to make teams in Prophecies and Factions (less people there)... my suggestion is to buy Nightfall 1st (easy to make teams to do quests and missions), after that Prophecies (prices may drop even further after NF release).
The NF preo-order kit can be handy too. You can use the extra slot for any type of champain, as long you own that chapter ofcourse. Good thing for me is that i got the NF pre-order kit for free when i also pre-ordered NF CE, which i did :P
